A report from the Maricopa Association of Governments revealed a heartbreaking statistic: in 2023, 645 people died from heat-related causes—a staggering 52% increase from 2022—with 45% of these victims being homeless. Many of these tragedies occurred near the Key Campus, where homelessness has risen by 46% since 2019.
